Course Description

Course 600 - Principles and Techniques of Cadastral Mapping
Principles and Techniques of Cadastral Mapping is intended to be a comprehensive, interactive program to introduce entry-level map maintenance personnel and assessment technicians to the field of cadastral mapping. Students are presented basic mapping principles and techniques and are expected to demonstrate basic skills that will allow them to plot deeded descriptions in both the metes and bounds land description system and the Public Land Survey System. Principles and Techniques of Cadastral Mapping utilize lectures, classroom discussion, and exercises to emphasize the main concepts and procedures taught in the course.

Due to the lack of recent offerings of IAAO Courses 600 and 601 convenient to North Carolina and an overwhelming interest from our membership, the NC Property Mappers Association will be sponosoring Course 600, August 10-14, 2009 (concurrent to mapping school) in Clemmons NC (a suburb of Winston-Salem, just west of the city, conveniently located on I-40) and Course 601 some time in 2010. A recent search of the IAAO Membership Database showed that more than 15% of the current members with CMS Designation were from North Carolina. We hope that these course offerings will help more people achieve this notable designation.

Certification

Course 600 is a required course for the International Association of Assessment Officers (IAAO) Cadastral Mapping Specialist (CMS) Professional Designation. The course will be taught by Sam Pintacura, Deputy Supervisor for Assessments in Kane County, IL, a certified IAAO Instructor.

For more information on the CMS Designation, please see the IAAO Website

SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR CLASS

IAAO generally provides a toolset for all students taking the class, but as they are generally small, we recommend that you may want to bring some of your own tools (same as for mapping school)

The NCPMA will also be sponsoring the IAAO Advanced Mapping (Course 601) some time in 2010.
